Dental implants

Big smiles all round

Missing teeth, whether just one or many, can really knock a person’s confidence, make them self-conscious and even change the way their voice sounds. But loosing teeth is surprisingly common as it can be caused by a number of reasons, from trauma (when teeth get knocked out) to old age, decay and gum disease.

pictureGetting your smile back by replacing missing teeth can be achieved with a number of dentistry methods. The most common treatments are dentures and fixed bridges, however dental implants are becoming an increasingly popular alternative. This is because as well as being a more permanent solution, dental implants also slow down bone loss and help to preserve nearby healthy tooth tissue.

Dental implants are titanium fixtures which are surgically implanted into the jaw bone and used to anchor natural-looking false teeth. With this treatment the bone grows around the implant. This means that implants function and feel much more like natural teeth, and offer the same force for biting as fixed bridges. Dental implants can be used to replace one missing tooth or many, and can be used as a support for an implant bridge. As such, they are an excellent alternative to partial dentures for patients that want permanent and natural looking false teeth.
